Questions
Passports FAQ.
General information only, not legal advice. Ask us about your situation.
Call 463-301-9000Can I renew a U.S. passport by mail?
Most adults can renew by mail (Form DS-82) if their last passport was issued when they were 16 or older, within the last 15 years, is undamaged and is in their current name. Online renewal has stricter rules. First passports, applicants under 18, and anyone whose last passport was lost, stolen or damaged must apply in person with Form DS-11.
My child's other parent can't come. What do we do?
The absent parent signs Form DS-3053 in front of a notary and includes a front and back copy of the ID they showed. Submit it within 90 days of notarization. We can notarize it in our office.
I'm traveling soon. Can it be faster?
Expedited service is available for an extra government fee. If you travel within 14 days (28 days if you also need a foreign visa), you can request an appointment at a passport agency, but appointments aren't guaranteed. Online renewals can't be expedited.
