Questions
Green Card FAQ.
General information only, not legal advice. Ask us about your situation.
Call 463-301-9000When can I renew my green card?
You can file Form I-90 within 6 months of your card's expiration date.
My card is only valid for 2 years. Do I renew it?
No. A 2-year conditional card isn't renewed. Instead you file Form I-751 to remove conditions in the 90 days before it expires.
Can I work while my application is pending?
Many adjustment applicants file Form I-765 together with the I-485 to request a work permit. Each form has its own government fee, and these work permits are now usually issued for up to 18 months, so plan to renew early.
Can I travel while my I-485 is pending?
Leaving the U.S. can cause your application to be denied unless you first get advance parole (Form I-131), and recent changes mean travel on advance parole can cause serious problems for some people. Speak with an immigration attorney before planning any trip.
