General information only, not legal advice. Ask us about your situation.
Call 463-301-9000How early can I apply?
USCIS lets you file up to 90 days before you reach your 5-year (or 3-year) green card anniversary.
What happens at the interview?
A USCIS officer reviews your application and gives you an English test (reading, writing and speaking) and a civics test. On the current test, the officer asks up to 20 questions from an official list of 128, and you need 12 correct. Some older long-time residents qualify for exemptions or an easier version.
How long does it take?
It depends on your USCIS field office. We'll show you the current official processing time for yours.
Do I need a lawyer?
Many people file on their own. If your situation is complicated, such as arrests, long trips abroad or past immigration issues, we recommend speaking with an attorney first.
